Considerations for Future Development

As I developed this high-functioning little library prototype, I recognized several options for future development. Digital free little libraries can meet a wide audience with multimodal content.

  1. Alongside Blind readers, designers can create an audiobook free little library with randomized titles for people with visual impairments.

  2. Designers can use a digital library to complement a physical collection. For example, a digital library may include videos or URLs that pair with physical books.

  3. Community members may physically map the books they read, so a website can chronicle how different people in different places are reading the same books.

  4. Designers can pair apps like Hypothes.is, Google Jamboard, or Perusall alongside the digital books. These apps allow multiple people to annotate PDFs and webpages at the same time. With this app, a digital lending library can allow readers to include digital paratexts, like pictures, links, or text comments, in the books. Different readers can later view and add to these paratexts. These digital annotations can help connect readers in a conversation about the book, like in Misemer's Correspondence Zone.
